I worked with Psyop to create a series of matte paintings for the E3 announcement cinematic trailer for ReCore, helping establish the visual identity of its mysterious desert world.
The project was especially exciting because it marked the return of one of the industry's most beloved studios. As we developed the environments, I became fascinated by the contrast at the heart of the game's setting: a vast, monochromatic wasteland interrupted by the remains of enormous machines buried beneath the sand. The challenge was finding a balance between simplicity and scale, creating landscapes that felt stark and desolate while still hinting at the history of a once-advanced civilization.
Many of the paintings focused on integrating massive industrial structures into the natural terrain, allowing fragments of machinery to emerge from dunes and rocky formations like the fossils of a forgotten age. The result was a world that felt both ancient and futuristic, setting the stage for the adventure that would unfold throughout the game.
