Batman: The Ride was one of the more unusual projects I had the opportunity to work on with Blur Studio. Rather than creating environments for a film or game, we were designing Gotham City for a theme park attraction, where the artwork would surround riders as they moved through the experience.
The project required a series of massive panoramic matte paintings that would be displayed across enormous screens, immersing guests in the dark, towering architecture of Gotham. Designing environments at this scale was a unique challenge, requiring a level of detail and continuity that extended far beyond a traditional film frame. Every painting needed to feel expansive enough to support the illusion that riders were traveling through a living city rather than simply watching a sequence of images.
The attraction is located in Abu Dhabi, and I still haven't had the chance to experience it in person. If you ever ride it, let me know how it is.
